Lewis catalyst | Zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate is the trifluoromethanesulfonate of zinc. It is usually used as a Lewis acid catalyst, for example for silylation reactions. Zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate is a white powder. Although it is commercially available, some researchers will prepare it by different methods. For example, it can be prepared by the reaction of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and metallic zinc in acetone, or by the reaction of zinc carbonate in methanol: Zn 2 HOTf→Zn (OTf)2 H2 ↑ ZnCO3 2 HOTf→Zn (OTf)2 H2O CO2 ↑ (OTf = CF3SO2) |
application | acids with higher acid strength than 100% sulfuric acid are called super acids. it is expected that super acids can be used as highly functional acid catalysts in the field of fine chemicals. Trifluoromethane sulfonic acid is one of the super acids. It is different from other strong acids in that it is extremely stable to oxidation and reduction. Based on this characteristic, trifluoromethane sulfonic acid has been used as a super acid catalyst with high acid strength and practical value in many aspects in recent years. In addition, many uses are being developed for its derivatives. Zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate, as an efficient Lewis acid catalyst, has also been widely used in recent years. |
